Telegram Introduces Toncoin-Powered Advertising Feature

Telegram Introduces Toncoin-Powered Advertising Feature

In a groundbreaking move, Telegram has unveiled a new feature allowing users to purchase in-platform advertisements using Toncoin. This innovative update, announced over the weekend, marks a significant leap in the app's user monetization strategy, offering 50% of ad revenue back to public channel owners.

The messaging giant now enables its users to boost their channels' visibility with just "a handful" of Toncoins, providing them with the flexibility to select their preferred channels for ad placements. This development not only simplifies the advertising process but also democratizes access to promotional tools within the app.

Telegram Ad Revenue and Fragment Exchange

Channel owners are set to enjoy fee-free withdrawals of their ad revenue, with the service expected to roll out in the coming weeks via Telegram's Fragment exchange. The choice of the TON Blockchain for this initiative is attributed to its low transaction fees and impressive processing speed, having achieved a record-breaking 100,000 transactions per second during tests last November.

Pavel Durov, Telegram's CEO, had previously hinted at this update, emphasizing the vast potential for monetization within the app. With over 1 trillion monthly views across Telegram channels, yet only 10% currently monetized through ads, this move is poised to unlock new revenue streams for content creators.

Pavel Durov on Creator Monetization

Durov envisions a "virtuous circle" where creators can reinvest their earnings into further channel promotion or opt to cash out their Toncoins. Following the announcement, Toncoin's value witnessed a 2.32% increase, reaching $5.24.

This innovative step by Telegram not only enhances the platform's advertising ecosystem but also solidifies its position as a pioneer in integrating cryptocurrency transactions within social media applications.
