Catalonia Creates a Decentralized Identity Platform
Catalan government will be the validator for the new blockchain platform, planned to be based on distributed ledger technology (DLT).
The ‘IdentiCAT’ will be the first digital identity at European level, which will be driven by the public sphere and managed by citizens themselves with the aim of becoming standard use in Catalonia
The scheme will also provide mobile access for citizens by using special app. It is supposed to allow people to “create and manage their own identities, with full legal effectiveness and privacy.”
IdentiCAT will be developed in accordance with the 2014 EU’s elDAS rules on electronic identification and trust services for electronic transactions. Therefore any EU member state will be able to maintain electronic transactions.
It is also mentioned that the system have to pass some verification stages after which it will be available for people.
