The stablecoin Libra will not be released until at least 2023, says CEO of Ripple, one of the coin's potential competitors.
Brad Garlinghouse has publicly expressed doubts that Facebook will be able to launch its coin on time. In an October 7 interview with Fortune, the head of Ripple said that the regulatory difficulties associated with Libra are so significant that the project team is unlikely to be able to launch cryptocurrency in accordance with a recently published roadmap.
“Do I think they have the technical competency to do that? Sure; I think the regulatory headwinds they’re facing… are substantial.”(Brad Garlinghouse, CEO Ripple)
As for the question of Libra`s launching timeframes he considers the most plausible, Garlinghouse supposed that before the end of 2022 Libra has no chance to start.
Anyway Facebook executives are much more self confident. In a roadmap published last week, developers said that Libra is on a way from a testnet to the mainnet already. Earlier we wrote that Visa and Mastercard intend to leave the Libra association.
