Cosmos is an ecosystem of independent parallel blockchains, which is scalable and interoperable. Originally created by the Tendermint team, Cosmos uses the Byzantine fault tolerant consensus algorithm. Cosmos enables different blockchains to transact with each other, aiming to build a decentralized internet of blockchains. Blockchains that use Cosmos process transactions faster while maintaining sovereignty. Cosmos SDK was designed for the people, to let them create custom blockchain applications. Everyone is able to develop additional features on the Cosmos SDK for an ever-growing ecosystem. Tendermint originally reduced the time of creation of a new blockchain system significantly (from years to weeks), however it lacked security. Cosmos SDK addresses this problem and creates a secure framework for building applications on Tendermint protocol.
