Bitwise CIO Predicts $250,000 Bitcoin Price Target Ahead of Next Halving

Matt Hougan, Chief Investment Officer at Bitwise Asset Management, has outlined five key predictions for the Bitcoin market leading up to its next halving event, anticipated in April 2028. Hougan's outlook includes expectations of reduced volatility, increased portfolio allocations, greater ETF inflows, central bank adoption, and a Bitcoin price exceeding $250,000.

In a recent memo to clients, Hougan emphasized the role of U.S. spot Bitcoin exchange-traded funds (ETFs) in driving these trends. He believes ETFs attract a diverse investor base, including financial advisors and institutions, who are more likely to engage in portfolio rebalancing and steady investments, thus dampening volatility. This increased participation could lead to a rise in typical portfolio allocations to Bitcoin, with some aggressive portfolios potentially targeting 5% or more.

Furthermore, Hougan suggests central banks may begin allocating to Bitcoin during this halving cycle, citing its properties as non-debt money and its potential attractiveness in a multipolar world. He believes such adoption would be a "game-changer" for Bitcoin, contributing to a substantial price increase.

Finally, Hougan reiterates his $250,000 price target for Bitcoin, driven by factors such as improved custody solutions, low correlation to stocks, easier access through ETFs, and increased institutional adoption. He believes this price point would represent significant progress and solidify Bitcoin's position in the mainstream financial landscape.
